Adapting to the situation is the surest path to victory for the Sonics.
With more than half of MPL PH Season 17 behind them, it seems that ONIC PH and Coach Jeniel “Haze” Bata-Anon have gotten accustomed to their situation.
The team is sitting comfortably at third place, which is not bad considering the uncertainty previously surrounding them. The arrival of Indonesian Gold Laner Clayton “Savero” Kuswanto had a lot of people especially concerned as it was unknown how the team would react to working with the Philippines’ very first import. It’s clear that the team is getting along fine now but they had to learn some lessons along the way.
“I think yung pinaka importante is acceptance,” said ONIC PH’s Coach Haze in an interview with the media. “Kase at first, syempre nabigla yung lahat sa pagdating ni Savero. So naging mas-madali yung makipag-work namin with Savero nung na accept namin siya as part of the team, as family. Madali kase makipag usap sa brother mo, diba?”

ONIC is known as the Super Family and that moniker didn’t arise from nothing. The culture of trust and openness has always been key to ONIC and including Savero into that culture has been vital to their success.
“Ang dali na nung bonding, ang dali na namin siya pagsabihan,” continued ONIC PH’s Coach Haze. “Hindi na kami naiilang sa kanya and vice versa, hindi siya naiilang sa amin. Pangit din yung maging peke, so kahit anong gusto namin sabihin sa kanya, sinasabi namin. Ngayon, maganda yung mga comms namin with Savero kasi lagi siya nagco-communicate sa amin.”
We’ll see just how far the power of acceptance and communication will take ONIC as we approach the playoffs.
