It’s a perfect way for North American Valorant to end their year.
Proving that NA are no slouches in Valorant, Shopify Rebellion took the crown of 2023 Game Changers Champions. The recently formed team shocked the home crowd in São Paulo, Brazil, taking down Team Liquid Brazil 3-2. This comes after Evil Geniuses won the 2023 Champions last August.
Since the start of the tournament, Shopify Rebellion played like a team possessed. They obliterated China’s Chao Hui EDG and Turkey’s BBL Queens in 2-0 sweeps. Between those two teams, Shopify Rebellion only dropped a total of 10 rounds, showing everyone that they were playing on another level.
Their first real challenge was against previous champions G2 Gozen. The European powerhouse had just come off a close match against Southeast Asia’s Team SMG. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to stop Shopify Rebellion from making it to the grand finals as they fell to them 2-1.
Team Liquid had a similar performance except on the lower side of the bracket. After losing to G2, the team got serious and bulldozed all their opposition in the lower bracket. They even got their revenge on G2 to make it to the grand finals. They pulled out all the stops against Shopify Rebellion, keeping the games close, but fell short at the last hurdle.
A record-breaking performance
Stealing the show during the grand finals was Shopify Rebellion’s Ava “florescent” Eugene. She set the record for the highest ACS and number of kills in a single map. Beyond that, she also set the Game Changers Championship total kill record at 112. Her performance was vital for Shopify Rebellion’s victory and she more than deserves her title of Game Changers Championship MVP.
