WWE Backlash is shaping up to be a must-see Premium Live Event as storylines continue to unfold, featuring top stars and high-stakes WrestleMania rematches.
With Jacob Fatu set to challenge Roman Reigns for the world title, the main event for the first PLE after WrestleMania is already locked in. More rivalries are also heating up.
The current match card also includes Iyo Sky vs Asuka, Seth Rollins vs Bron Breakker, and Trick Williams vs Sami Zayn, which are rivalries that carried over post-WrestleMania 42. With a strong lineup already taking shape, here are some more matches that could round out the card ahead of May 9.
Cody Rhodes vs Gunther
The Orton and Rhodes story is far from over, but in the most recent episode of SmackDown, Gunther attacked Rhodes out of nowhere. He also signaled that he is going after the WWE Title. With Orton missing in the picture as of the moment, expect these two to clash at the next PLE event.
The rivalry also made sense as Gunther’s next step after defeating Seth Rollins at WrestleMania is to go for a World Title. Rhodes also said in his recent promo when he called out everyone in the locker room that he is easy to find, hard to beat. Now that someone answered his call, the fighting champion will be put to test against the Ring General.
Penta vs Je’Von Evans vs Ethan Page vs Rusev for the Intercontinental Title
The Intercontinental Champion has been on a dominant run, taking down challengers one by one. He took on challengers and continued to run open challenges almost weekly. Penta even defended his IC title against El Hijo del Vikingo at a AAA episode.
Most recently, he defeated Rusev in a non-title match on RAW. After the bout, Rusev attacked the champion, with Ethan Page joining in. Je’Von Evans evened the odds, helping the babyfaces stand tall. Expect a tag match on RAW to set up this chaotic multi-man clash at Backlash.
Dominik Mysterio & Liv Morgan vs Stephanie Vaquer & Finn Balor
Like the rest of the card, these feuds are far from over. Stephanie Vaquer is determined to reclaim her title as her feud with Liv Morgan is still heating up. Dominik Mysterio and TJD continue to make things hard for Finn Bálor. With multiple storylines overlapping, a mixed tag team match feels like the best way to advance both feuds on a stacked Backlash card.
