There’s a lot to anticipate in the first Evo event of the year.
Evo Japan 2026 is right around the corner as it kicks off on May 1 and will run throughout the weekend with 12 main stage tournaments and more.
As with all Evos, there’s a lot of things grabbing your attention. Three days is not enough time to catch everything so we’ve narrowed it down to three things that you should watch out for in Evo Japan 2026.
2XKO – Official Evo Appearance

Technically speaking, 2XKO has appeared at Evo multiple times already but only as demo stations and promotional booths. Evo Japan 2026 is where Riot Games’ fighting game properly takes to the stage and it’s going to be exciting.
While the game’s overall reception has been rocky at best, it nevertheless earned itself a dedicated audience. Evo Japan 2026 is looking like the biggest 2XKO event so far so we’re expecting the tournament to be just as hype.
Virtua Fighter 5 – Second Main Stage Appearance

For a game that’s practically two decades old, Virtua Fighter 5 continues to be a darling among the Japanese FGC. It’s always a treat to see the masters of this niche game show off their prowess on the Evo stage. Plus, the game has held up pretty well through numerous visual and gameplay updates. And with Tekken 8’s recent downward trend, it’s gotten quite a bit more eyes on it.
Truthfully however, Virtua Fighter 5 is cool but it’s just a buffer for what fans really want. The game’s revival is only leading up to its long awaited sequel. Which leads us to the next part.
Hype Fighting Game Announcements

Evo has always been the best place to drop some fighting game news but the best ones are always reserved for Grand Finals Sunday. And considering what we have waiting in the horizon, there’s no better place to drop a bombshell announcement than Evo Japan (aside from Evo Vegas, of course).
Marvel Tokon news is practically expected to happen and any updates on Virtua Fighter 6 would be appreciated. Aside from that, we expect teasers for upcoming DLC’s for other games. We still haven’t seen a lot about Kunimitsu who’s coming to Tekken 8 in spring, and although Ingrid is arriving to Street Fighter 6 at the end of May, it wouldn’t hurt to get a hint for what the next season of characters will be.
