The Golden Road is still alive and very doable for the Cavalry.
It was an early out for the MLBB fans in Cuneta Astrodome as Team Liquid made short work of Aurora Gaming to become the MPL PH S16 champions. Like an unstoppable tsunami, the Cavalry dealt a clean 4-0 sweep against Aurora to win their third MPL trophy.
The results are shocking, to say the least, considering the positions of both teams throughout the season. Aurora were agreed to be the best team in the league, heading into playoffs with a 13-match win streak. As they stomped their way to grand finals that streak hit 15, with Team Liquid being added to the tally, and they were clear favorites to become the MPL PH S16 champions.
Meanwhile, Team Liquid had a bumpy road to the playoffs in the regular season. While they were coming in as the MSC 2025 champions, they looked far from untouchable in comparison to Aurora. Uncharacteristic coordination issues and a rather slow adaptation to the new midseason meta were just some of the issues that marred Team Liquid’s run. They still finished the regular season in third place but a championship was still in question.
Turns out that, just like a massive tidal wave, Team Liquid were gathering their energy for their playoffs push. They took the longest route to the grand finals, starting from the play-ins on day one and even dropping to lower bracket finals to boot after losing to Aurora 3-1.
Team Liquid have always looked different during playoffs and this time they had momentum on their side. Their five straight days of playing would ultimately culminate with them stopping the unstoppable in the most dominant fashion. Team Liquid gave Aurora the ultimate black eye – giving them their second match loss in the entire season to become the MPL PH S16 champions.
