Their chances of making the playoffs were slim, but those are the odds any champion would take.
People doubted them, but now that Team Falcons’ Pheww and crew are back in the MPL PH S16 playoffs, they’re more motivated than ever to keep going. From a horrendous seven-match loss streak to possibly making it to M7, Team Falcons are out to prove everyone wrong.
Their match against Team Liquid in the last week of the regular season to seize the last spot in the playoffs was really one for the history books. Team Falcons had shown significant improvement, but they were already mentally prepared for their season to be over. Now they’ve shown that they still have that championship-winning fire in them, and Mid Laner Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel and crew can get a taste of that arena-sized crowd in the Cuneta Astrodome.
“Sobrang saya kami kasi malaki na yung venue,” said Team Falcons’ Pheww with a smile. “Masaya na nga kami nung lumipat yung [regular season] venue two seasons ago. Pero sinabi ko nga sa mga teammates ko na hindi ko tinitingnan yung venue kasi feeling ko na hindi na natin maabot. Baka malungkot lang ako!”
Pheww is the veteran of all veterans as he’s been with the MPL PH since its first season. He’s seen the league grow over time, and he’s not surprised that it’s reached this level.
“Sa tagal ng takbo ng MPL, lumalaki lang yung fanbase nila so aabot din siya sa arena.”
But the momentum is really on Team Falcons’ side now. They’re getting their stride back, late as it may be, so the other playoff teams need to watch out.
“Mas-motivated na kami kasi bumbalik yung tiwala namin sa isa’t-isa at sa sarili namin,” said Team Falcons’ Pheww. “Feeling ko bumalik na yung gigil namin sa paglalaro. Nawala yun nung nag-lose streak kami so maganda yung nangyayari sa amin ngayon.”
