The veteran esports caster has been with the scene long enough to see how it benefits people.

When it comes to Filipino esports, few have the same amount of experience and longevity as Caisam “Wolf” Nopueto, the first featured personality on The GAME’s newest YouTube podcast series The GAME Halftime

While he’s one of the most recognizable voices in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines, Wolf has been part of the scene back when Dota 2 was the number one game in the country. He’s seen how Philippine esports matured over the years, how it’s benefited the lives of numerous people, and how it has the same love and passion as any traditional sport.

Two Worlds, Same Passion

“We are so much more alike than you think,” Wolf said on the pilot episode of The GAME Halftime.

Mukha lang hindi kasi video games yung ine-enjoy namin. I want to tell everyone that kung gaanong ka-dedicated si James Yap, Mark Barroca, and Marc Pingris with their craft, there is that equal passion and competitiveness of a kid playing Mobile Legends professionally. Your KarlTzy, K1NGKONG, Sanford na sikat sa MLBB.”

Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno is the undisputed GOAT of MLBB, not just in the Philippines but around the world. King “K1NGKONG” Perez and Sanford Vinuya are also internationally known professional MLBB superstars. These players were given an opportunity to shine thanks to esports, and they could only reach that level with the blood, sweat, and tears they shed playing their game.

Ultimately, that’s what Wolf sees as the greatest benefit of esports and MLBB. Beyond being an outlet for their passions, it’s also an avenue for them to uplift themselves.

“These ML players, they usually grow up in places na masasabi mo hindi maganda for a kid. They always joke ‘buti na lang may ML, kasi kung hindi baka nasa loob na ako ng Bilibid,” Wolf said.

A lot of these players grew up [in the slums] but when you see them, talagang nakikita mo na they’re very maangas, unfiltered, but very competitive. Fortunately there’s esports to help them get out of that place.”

Wolf believes that esports is no different from traditional sports.

It’s this competitive drive that’s allowed Filipino esports players to flourish and succeed internationally. It’s the same drive that any sports fan can appreciate and one that Wolf hopes can bridge the gap between these two very similar worlds.

Laging irresponsible ‘yung tingin sa mga nagvi-video games, but that’s not the case. With video games, there’s that same passion, grit, and competitiveness right now sa mundo ng professional esports. I’m sure that’s something that sports people would love to know about.”
