Powered by Clear and BlastTV as streaming partner, football fever took over Skinny Mike’s BGC as The GAME brought together members of the Philippine football community for a special viewing of the highly-anticipated clash between Portugal and Colombia.
The venue transformed into a football hub early in the morning, with supporters arriving in their favorite kits, sharing predictions over breakfast, and settling in to experience the match together. From longtime followers of the sport to content creators and personalities within the local football scene, the gathering highlighted the growing passion for the beautiful game in the Philippines.
A Community United by the Beautiful Game
The program officially kicked off with opening remarks from MMGI COO Anne Bernisca, who welcomed the attendees and emphasized the significance of building a community around football.
She noted how the willingness of fans to brave the early morning and Manila traffic spoke volumes about the power of sports.
“It goes to show how much power sports have to unite us all together,” Bernisca said.
The GAME Chief of Editorial Content Sid Ventura also highlighted the significance of the featured matchup, pointing to the star power on display.
On one side was Portugal, led by the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo and supported by a talented midfield trio of Bruno Fernandes, Vitinha, and João Neves. Across the pitch stood Colombia, featuring 2014 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winner James Rodríguez alongside Bayern Munich star Luis Díaz.
The excitement extended beyond the pitch as fans participated in activities and challenges throughout the morning, including a football head-balancing challenge during halftime, where select attendees tested their skills and competitiveness before a supportive crowd.
A Matchday Atmosphere to Remember
The match itself kept everyone on the edge of their seats.
Portugal controlled much of the possession and dictated the tempo through midfield, while Colombia consistently threatened on the counterattack. Both sides created several opportunities, with Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa producing a series of crucial saves to keep the score level.
The drama peaked late in the match when Colombia appeared to have found the breakthrough through a headed effort, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside after a review.
As the intensity grew, fans inside Skinny Mike’s remained captivated by the quality and competitiveness on display. Although the match ultimately ended in a goalless draw, it showcased the defensive organization and resilience of two teams expected to make deep runs in the tournament.
With the group stage concluded, both nations advanced to the FIFA World Cup’s inaugural Round of 32. Colombia will face Ghana, while Portugal takes on an ever-dangerous Croatia side that reached the semifinals and final in the previous two editions of the tournament.
