From anniversary kits and throwbacks to reissues, LaLiga’s Retro Week delivered.
Last April 10-13, LaLiga successfully celebrated its first-ever Retro Weekend, a celebration of the league’s rich history and each club’s traditions. Retro kits and vintage-inspired looks were on full display, including the referees. The Spanish league’s social media accounts also joined in by posting as if the platforms existed decades ago, while broadcast presentations added even more layers to the theme.
What made it work best was the alignment across the entire league. Clubs embraced the concept together, creating a weekend that made fans feel nostalgic while still enjoying the football.
Espanyol

If the shade of yellow did not immediately give off 1990s Espanyol vibes, the oversized sponsor logo certainly did. This kit perfectly captured the bold retro aesthetic of that era.
Mallorca

It was a special weekend for Mallorca. Not only did they wear a retro kit for the occasion, but they also celebrated a historic milestone as Vedat Muriqi became the club’s all-time leading scorer, surpassing Samuel Eto’o during the commemorative week.
Real Sociedad

The collars instantly elevated the entire look, even if the stripes were already strong enough on their own. Everything about the kit felt like Real Sociedad stepping straight out of the 1990s.
Villarreal

There is something about yellow kits with collars that always stands out. Villarreal captured the intended retro vibe perfectly, with muted yellow tones reminding fans of the era when the club was emerging as a serious European side led by Juan Román Riquelme.
LaLiga Referees

Even the referees joined the fun, and at times they looked like the best-dressed people on the pitch. Their uniforms immediately brought back memories of classic LaLiga broadcasts from past decades.
Hector Bellerin and Real Betis

Real Betis’ special retro kit was already a masterpiece, but their players elevated it even further.

Among them, one player stood out above the rest: Hector Bellerin. The Spanish full-back took the theme to another level. Bellerin has long established himself as one of football’s best-dressed players, but LaLiga’s Retro Week was another reminder of why he stands apart. He simply looked made for the aesthetic. The flow, the mustache, the kit that suited him perfectly, and of course his off-pitch image all played a part.
