A tough loss but history was still made by the Filipina swimmer.
The Philippines’ Kayla Sanchez bowed out of the Paris 2024 Olympics in the semifinals of the women’s 100m freestyle, ending her run with a time of 54.21 seconds that placed her seventh in her semifinals heat and 15th overall out of 16 semifinalists.
Despite the exit, Sanchez was still able to make history at this Olympics by setting a new national record of 53.67 seconds in the preliminaries to qualify for the semis. The mark bested her own previous national record of 54.25 set last year.
Jarod Hatch is the lone Filipino swimmer left in contention in Paris. He debuts on Friday in Heat 2 of the men’s 100m butterfly preliminaries.
