Here’s why Creamline’s latest PVL finals appearance carries more weight.

The Creamline Cool Smashers are back in familiar territory.

Thrust into a virtual do-or-die, Creamline turned back the Farm Fresh Foxies, 25-23, 14-25, 25-23, 25-19, to punch their ticket into the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference finals on Thursday at the Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan.

The win allowed Creamline to make their 15th PVL finals appearance — one that carries more weight for the league darlings after an uncharacteristic drought.

Syempre napakasaya at napakasarap sa pakiramdam to be in the finals. It’s been a while diba? Isang taon din halos, tatlong conference din nawala, so actually I think no words can capture kung ano ‘yung nafefeel namin at the moment,” team captain Alyssa Valdez said post-game.

“One, kumpleto kami, and two, nakapasok pa kami sa finals so God is good to us, most especially today.”

Following their historic Grand Slam in 2024, the Cool Smashers were given a reality check throughout 2025, headlined by their streak of 19-straight podiums coming to an end in the Reinforced Conference.

This year’s All-Filipino tilt wasn’t any easier, with Creamline dropping to the play-ins after a thrilling five-setter against the Cignal Super Spikers. Yet as setter Jia de Guzman says, it was also here that the Cool Smashers’ character shone brightly.

“I think this conference, I’ve seen how experienced and composed my teammates are. Alam ko na hindi rin madali ang pinagdaaanan ng team the past few years na wala ako,” De Guzman said.

Pinagtrabahuhan nila ‘yung bawat championship, bawat finals, bawat game. And it shows talaga ngayon kung paano nila dinadala ‘yung sarili nila, at nadadala rin nila ako sa mga games na pinagdadaanan namin.”

True enough, Creamline’s character shone when it mattered most, especially in Wednesday’s win against the Foxies to book their finals ticket.

“The level of play that is being played in PVL, it’s such a privilege to be put on a stage where we are challenged and we are given the chance to grow as individual players and as a team. And I’m really happy with how Creamline is taking it this time around,” said de Guzman.

Now, the Creamline Cool Smashers seek to end their title drought against the Super Spikers, a team that’s beaten them thrice for this conference, including the conference semifinals.

So while experience is on their side, the league darlings aren’t resting their laurels one bit, with Cignal re-establishing itself as a league contender.

“But the finals is a different story — at least I’d like it to be a different story! So this time around, we have time to prepare. Time to rest and time for Cignal lang talaga, so our focus is on them; at the end of the day, both teams in the finals right now are very role playing teams,” said de Guzman.

For Valdez, this latest finals berth goes deeper than ending a title drought — it’s the chance for Creamline to reintroduce themselves as the league’s gold standard.

Ngayon lang kami nakumpleto, so yung journey namin, iba ‘yung growth namin, iba ‘yung pagkakakilala namin because of all the challenges. So we’re all very glad and happy na na-experience naminyun,” Valdez reflected.

“So coming into this finals, siguro ang gusto lang namin maipakita or makita is sino ba ulit ‘yung Creamline Cool Smashers after all these struggles.”

Game 1 of the Finals is set for this Tuesday, April 21. Will it be the beginning of Creamline’s reintroduction, or Cignal inching closer to a franchise breakthrough?
