It’s an outstanding start for Twisted Minds but there’s still a lot of season left.
MPL PH S16’s first week has concluded and no one, not even Twisted Minds’ MP the King, expected the first 2-0 team to be Twisted Minds themselves.
As one of the only returning players to the team Michael “MP the King” Endino was keeping his expectations realistic. Twisted Minds finished sixth last season and with this season’s team made of mostly amateur players, it’s fair to say that people really weren’t expecting much out of them at the start of the season.
“Hindi ko ine-expect na early season magdo-dominate kami,” said Twisted Minds’ MP the King. “Kumbaga nasa utak ko is gapang muna kasi bago. Peros siyempre kino-condition din yung utak [ng team] para maging ready sa MPL so maganda yung naging outcome.”
MP the King is also taking on a more important role in the team as its sole veteran. His experience helps keep the team in check, keeping them focused on their objectives no matter the game state.
“Lahat ng tinuro ni coach ay nag-sink in na sa utak ko,” adds Twisted Minds’ MP the King. “Kumbaga sila, ina-absorb pa. Pag nakakalimutan nila yung tinuro sa kanila, nandun ako para i-remind sa kanila. Yun yung naitutulong ko sa kanila.”
Of course, we’ve seen a similar experiment like this already with AP.Bren last season. The difference is that now there’s at least one experienced player helping guide the team. When asked about his role in leading a team of amateur players, MP the King said that it’s the entire team’s job to help shape their mindset. And if they want to keep improving in the MPL, they only have one thing in mind.
“Tine-take namin ang bawat laro parang huling laro na namin,” said Twisted Minds’ MP the King. “Regardless kung anong mangyari, makapasok kami sa playoffs o hindi, iniisip namin na ito na yung last life namin. Kapag hindi namin mabigay yung best namin, baka dito magsisimula yung panget na habits namin.”
