As long as you prove that you’ve learned your lesson, then you deserve another shot.
Coach BON CHAN and Twisted Minds are running it back in MPL PH S17 as they enter a new season with the same roster, save for a change in the sixth man. They remember their hot streak at the start of the last season and believe they can do it again but better this time around.
Coach Kristoffer “BON CHAN” Ricaplaza has always advocated for keeping the same roster no matter the result of the season. Understandable when the team was deemed successful but harder to argue for when they fall short. The coach is a strong believer in second chances and wants to give his players the opportunity to prove that they’ve learned from their mistakes.
“Kung yung isang tao natuto sa pagkamali niya, kunwari nakuryente siya, siguro naman hindi siya masyadong t***a na makuryente ulit,” said Twisted Minds’ coach BON CHAN rather bluntly. “Parang same din siya sa mga players na alam saan yung pagkukulang at pagkakamali nila. Gusto ko ibigay sila ng isa pang chance na patunayan na natuto na sila.”
“As much as possible, hindi ko iniisip na kung nag-under perform yung player, palitan kaagad. Hinahanap ko ano yung root cause, bakit nag-underperform siya? ‘Yun ‘yung dapat solusyonin muna bago dumating sa point na palitan ‘yung player.”
This sounds like the coach is rather forgiving to his players but he’s not giving second chances out for free. Replacement is the last course of action and he’s constantly assessing if his players are still learning and still growing.
“Siguro ‘yung isa pang way to determine kung kailangan palitan ‘yung player is if kinausap mo siya at naramdam mo kung willing pa ba siya maglaro under your banner,” added Twisted Minds’ coach BON CHAN.
“Willing pa ba siya matuto and mag-improve or satisfied na ba siya sa nagawa niya? ‘Yung pagiging satisfied niya or kung gusto pa rin niya mag-experience ng bago, isa sa mga factors ‘yun sa bakit nare-replace ‘yung player.”
And coach BON CHAN has faith that his players did learn and improve from last year. With a league as dynamic as the MPL PH, we’ll see if this was the right call for Twisted Minds.
