It’s a collab that we’ve dreamed about since the 90’s and it finally happened 30 years later.
Metalheads from every corner of Sanctuary unite as Korn celebrates the launch of Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred with their first new music video in four years. Their latest single was made especially for Diablo IV’s latest expansion and its accompanying animated video absolutely oozes the horror and dark fantasy that the series is known for.
Dark fantasy fans and metal fans are two groups whose interests overlap quite a lot. If you’re a fan of either Korn or Diablo, chances are that you are also a fan of the other. It’s funny then, that the two took 30 years to finally come together. Both were pioneers of their own genres back in the 90’s and both continue to be massive pop culture influences even today.
Titled Reward The Scars, the single carries a sound that’s more reminiscent of Korn’s earlier work. The steady and soulful melody coupled with the absolutely demonic bass and drums invokes that nu metal energy that the band is known for. And this isn’t just a random collab for the band either. Korn’s lead singer Jonathan Davis revealed in an interview that he’s quite the Diablo fan and used his experiences playing the game as inspiration for Reward The Scar’s lyrics.

What honestly surprised us was the quality of the animation in the music video. It’s dark, brutal, bloody, and holds nothing back – a perfect representation of the world of Diablo. It’s so good that we’d love to see an animated series in this exact style. Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred himself, was also absolutely menacing in the video and makes us more excited to see him in action in the expansion.
In the end, this Korn and Diablo IV collab was a pleasant surprise. Reward the Scars is a good fit for the Diablo universe and a great reminder of Korn’s iconic sound. These two work so well together and we hope they have more crossovers like this in the future.
