For Alodia Gosiengfiao, these characters hold a special place in her heart as a cosplayer.
As the Philippines’ very own “Cosplay Queen”, Alodia Gosiengfiao has brought many pop culture icons to life — from popular animes including Neon Genesis Evangelion to video game series like Final Fantasy.
But which ones exactly stand out for Alodia? Here’s her list, as she recently revealed to The GAME.
Masane Amana (Witchblade)
Top of Alodia’s list would be her cosplay of Masane Amana, the main protagonist of anime series Witchblade. Alodia and her sister Ashley represented the Philippines during the 2009 AFA Regional Cosplay Championship in Singapore, with Ashley portraying Witchblade antagonist Shiori Tsuzuki.
“That was our first cosplay out of the country, so it was me and my sister. It was cool!” Alodia said during an exclusive screening of Mortal Kombat II in The GAME Huddle last May 5.
GoGo Tomago (Big Hero 6)
When we placed her on the spot, Alodia named GoGo Tomago from Big Hero 6 as her all-time favorite cosplay. A major character from the Disney movie, Alodia says that this cosplay is a hit whenever she goes to conventions.
“Everytime I go to conventions, little kids try to hug me and they don’t even reach me. It’s like they hug my leg so it’s super cute,” she said.
Alodia also pointed out the attention to detail placed in this costume.
“I like that we utilized magnets so we could put the disks from my leg to my arm, then I throw it as frisbees around conventions, so I make a new one every time.”
Lisa (Genshin Impact)
By the time Genshin Impact was released in 2020, Alodia’s name was already established in the cosplay scene. Given this, it’s not surprising that the developers, MiHoYo, personally reached out to Alodia to cosplay Lisa, one of the game’s starting characters.
“It’s so funny because the game messaged me and no one knew about Genshin Impact! It wasn’t even out yet. They just told me ‘Oh, can you cosplay this character?’ Then I did, and then the game blew up,” Alodia said, with Genshin Impact turning out to be a hit among gamers during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Raiden Shogun (Genshin Impact)
With their partnership already established, Alodia was once again tapped by MiHoYo for a Genshin Impact cosplay, this time for their first anniversary. Featuring an impressive set piece, Alodia cosplayed the Raiden Shogun, a fan-favorite character within the game’s massive playerbase.
Highlighting this portrayal is the Mussou Isshin, Raiden Shogun’s sword which was brought to life through Alodia’s cosplay.
“So after a few years, I did it also for Genshin Impact’s first anniversary. They messaged me and I love it because like my sword lights up, the Katana,” she said.
Rikku (Final Fantasy X-2)
Rounding up Alodia’s top five would be Rikku from the Final Fantasy series, specifically her Black Mage build in Final Fantasy X-2. For Alodia, this is a no-brainer, given her love for the series’ Black Mage class.
As she puts it, the Black Mage is a “very important part” of who Alodia Gosiengfiao is today.
“[Rikku] would be part of my top five because growing up, my IGN was Black Mage. That’s why my gaming teams were also Black Rose, Blacklist before,” she said. “It’s like a very important part of who I am today.”
