With nine straight wins in a row, even the reigning world champions are taking a pause.
Even ONIC PH, the M6 world champions, couldn’t stop the force of nature that is Aurora Gaming as the Northern Lights rocket to a nine-match win streak.
Winding back to week six, day one, of MPL PH S16, ONIC PH were Aurora’s eighth win, which brought them right next to their previous season’s win streak record. When asked if that played a factor in their match, coach Anthony “YnoT” Senedrin said that wasn’t the case.
“They could have been on a losing streak, but the respect would have been the same,” said coach YnoT to the media. “Alam naman natin yung caliber ng mga players nila, alam natin yung caliber ng mga coaches nila. I think it doesn’t make a difference.”

As much of a powerhouse ONIC PH has been this season, it seems like Aurora is on a different level. Coach YnoT believes that Aurora has such control at all phases of the game that it’s difficult to play properly. It’s possible to break it, as evidenced by their one-game win, but they also adapt quickly, which makes it hard to maintain a lead.
“Today is a very good statement from Aurora na yung buong game is theirs for the taking. Other teams have to step up.”
ONIC PH themselves admit that they’re not yet back to their world championship level. While even at this state, they’re good enough to compete for the top two in MPL PH, they know they can be better.
“There are some pros looking into the match,” said coach YnoT. “I think it’s very good that tatlong games yung nilaro namin sa kanila. Nasabayan namin sila, unlike yung previous matches namin. It’s a tough loss, but you have to look at what the team did right.”
