The hits just keep on coming with these massive video game announcements.
It seems like the big three of video games all had something to say these past few days as the 2026 Nintendo Direct just concluded with some big announcements.
As a whole, this Nintendo Direct was a showcase of the Switch 2’s prowess, which allows it access to a wider range of third-party games. Of course, they’ve got some major first-party games cooking as well so we’ve gathered five of the biggest ones that really caught our eye.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
The next installment of the Fire Emblem series is here and is looking to be bigger than the last. You get to play four unique heroes, each with their own story to tell, as they battle in the Heroic Games for a chance to have one of their wishes granted.
Fortune’s Weave seems to be blending in all of the best systems of previous Fire Emblem games. From tactical combat, social encounters, and exploration, this latest installment is shaping up to be something big. And fans won’t have to wait very long as it’s coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17.
Xenoblade Genesis
Hot off the heels of announcing the Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy on the Switch 2, the Nintendo Direct drops this bombshell. The Xenoblade series is one of the most celebrated JRPG’s of this era and it’s easy to get excited to see the next chapter of this storied franchise.
It seems like they’re going for a lot of flavors for this iteration. We’ve got a school setting, ongoing war, and ancient prophecy all rolled into one. We’ll have to wait and see how this develops as it’s slated to release in 2027.
FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE
It’s been years since FINAL FANTASY left the turn-based JRPG genre but now the OG’s are back. Animated in beautiful and stylish 2.5D, FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE is bringing a touch of nostalgia back to the franchise by going back to its roots.
Keen observers will notice that the story and setting belong to Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, a discontinued free-to-play mobile game. In a sense, RESONANCE is a remake of Brave Exvius, which is nice as fans of the mobile game now have a permanent game to go back to once it releases on October 22.
Kingdom Hearts IV
It’s not a hoax, it’s not a myth: Kingdom Hearts IV does exist and the Nintendo Direct has proven it. It’s been nearly a decade since Kingdom Hearts III released but now fans finally have something to chew on.
Granted, it’s not much more details than what we already know, but at least we know the game is being worked on. No solid dates yet unfortunately, but at least we can play through the series on the Switch 2 until then.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
And dropping at the very end of the Nintendo Direct is the announcement that one of the most influential video games in history is getting a remake. The original Ocarina of Time was a landmark game that inspired generations of gamers and developers. And now we can relieve Link’s time traveling adventure in full HD.
There’s subtle hints in the trailer that this won’t be just a one-to-one retelling of the Nintendo 64 classic. That adds even more to our excitement as that means there might be more to discover in this remake. Fortunately we know that the game is releasing this year so our curiosity may be sated soon.
