Anthony Edwards and the Three Stripes seem to have another upcoming hit.

From the looks of it, Anthony Edwards’ fan-favorite adidas AE 1 will finally be receiving its sequel.

As he kicked off his first-ever tour in China, Ant-Man formally unveiled the adidas AE 2 in the “With Love” colorway, which meshes quite well with the orange backdrop used in his popular advertisements with the Three Stripes.

Based on what we have seen, the AE 2 stays in line with adidas’ futuristic design cues that are similar to most of the Three Stripes’ performance models. But at the same time, it is also true that the silhouette has a more aggressive look when compared to the AE1’s more minimalistic vibe.

Textile mesh seems to be more prominent this time around, while certain parts made out of what seems to be TPU at the forefoot area, and carbon fiber by the heel give the shoe its aggressive, but futuristic vibe. More likely than not, those aforementioned parts are also there for support and on-foot containment.

An aggressive traction pattern can be seen on the outsole, which should be a huge plus for performance given its reliability. Traction was also one of the AE 1’s strong suits, and if we’re basing off the pattern alone, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if the AE 2 also excels in this department.

Performance aside, the AE 2 is also shaping up to be a good option for casual wear, even if it may not be the traditional low-top basketball sneaker. If anything, Ant-Man’s outfit in the unveiling should be enough inspiration, where the AE 2 served as a pop of color to the all-black outfit.

It’s not too often that brands get the second sneaker right, as there is often the pressure to match, or even exceed the original model. There is also the dilemma of staying true to one creative direction, or switching it up completely in the hopes of raising the bar from a design standpoint.

But from the looks of it, the Three Stripes might have cooked up a model that screams Anthony Edwards at first glance with the AE 2.
