MLBB’s newest support hero is a weird one but if anyone knows how to make him work, it’s Nova.
While everyone’s wracking their brains trying to get the new MLBB hero Marcel to work, AP.Bren’s Nova has him already figured out. As the only player to win with Nova in opening week of MPL PH Season 17, it’s clear that Denniel “Nova” Gomez knows what the Soul Photographer needs to succeed.
A lot of the weirdness around Marcel revolves around his Passive. Platinum Snap briefly freezes any enemy hero in place when they get close to Marcel. He deals True Damage to them and gives himself and a nearby ally a shield when this triggers but that’s the simple stuff. What’s important is that Marcel cannot gain Extra HP, instead it’s converted into Hybrid Defense. On the other hand, his Basic Attacks deal more damage based on his Hybrid Defense but cannot benefit from Extra Attack Speed.
All that is to say that Marcel is naturally squishy but still deceptively tanky. To maximize this, Nova recommends that you build Thunder Belt as soon as possible.
“Pag na-build niyo na ‘yung Thunder Belt, kailangan mo i-maximize kaagad yung pagsta-stack niya,” Nova said. “As for item builds, siguro kanyang-kanya lang ‘yun. Kung gusto niyo gamitin yung build ko, pwede naman.”
What’s clear among Marcel’s common builds is that they prioritize gaining more Defense and Cooldown. Understandable as Marcel gets survivability and a bit more damage out of it. But Nova likes to lean a little more on utility, getting the Favor enchantment for his boots as well as a Flask of the Oasis. As for the Emblem you should use, it seems to be no contest.
“Mas-prefer ko yung Support Emblem kasi si Marcel, maligalig siya,” said Nova. “Kailangan niya ng movement speed so mas okay sa kanya ‘yung Support. Tapos hindi bagay talaga yung HP galing sa Tank Emblem sa kanya.”
It’s a 1.5% conversion rate from Extra HP to Hybrid Defense so it’s not nothing but not great either. Ultimately, Marcel contributes to the team by always being on the move. What he wants to do is to run around annoying enemies and helping allies with his Passive. And with the correct items and build, you’ll be running circles and taking photos of your foes just like the pros.
