UEFA Champions League Final Preview: PSG’s Formidable Attack vs. Arsenal’s Strong Backline
The UEFA Champions League final is set. Will PSG go back-to-back, or will Arsenal finally be crowned champions of Europe?
This season’s UEFA Champions League has finally reached its final stage. The scene is set for a showdown between two of Europe’s most dominant sides in recent years. Arsenal handled Atletico Madrid in the semifinals with a defensive masterclass, while defending champions Paris Saint-Germain narrowly edged a stacked Bayern Munich squad.
Both clubs have also been difficult to crack domestically, sitting comfortably at the top of their respective leagues with only a few matchdays remaining. A rare opportunity now hangs in the balance as both sides remain on course to secure both the league title and the biggest trophy in European club football.
It is rare to have a massive football match in May without the feeling that the sport is about to disappear for a few months. But this is the biggest match in club football, and just two weeks later, the World Cup begins. Football fans are about to be spoiled over the next few months. Before that, though, the UEFA Champions League final takes center stage.
PSG’s formidable attack

Ever since Luis Enrique arrived in the French capital, PSG has looked like a completely different side. The Spanish manager transformed the squad from top to bottom, building around world-class talents such as Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele.
The defense is disciplined. The midfield is balanced and composed. The attack is lethal and unstoppable.
Led by Dembele and Kvaratskhelia, PSG’s frontline has become one of the most dangerous attacking units in Europe. Dembele continues to deliver on the biggest stages for both club and country, while Kvaratskhelia elevated his game even further this season, becoming the first player in Champions League history to record a goal contribution in seven consecutive knockout-stage matches in a single campaign. Add Desire Doue into the mix, and PSG’s attack becomes even more difficult to contain.
But PSG’s dominance goes far beyond its forwards. The midfield trio of Vitinha, Joao Neves, and Warren Zaire-Emery offers creativity, control, stability, and flair all at once. Very few midfields in Europe can consistently keep up with their intensity and movement. Behind them sits an experienced backline anchored by two elite fullbacks, making PSG arguably the most complete squad left standing.
Now aiming to go back-to-back, PSG enters the final with both experience and momentum on its side. At this point, seeing them return to the biggest stage in European football no longer feels surprising. It feels expected.
Arsenal’s strong backline

Arsenal has reached the UEFA Champions League final once again after two decades. Their first appearance in 2006 ended in heartbreak. The North London side is finally back with another chance at European glory.
This current Arsenal squad is arguably one of the most talented teams the club has ever assembled. Mikel Arteta has built a well-rounded side filled with quality across every area of the pitch. For years, Arsenal felt like its own biggest obstacle. The talent was always there, but composure in defining moments often was not. This time, though, the Gunners look far more mature under Arteta.
Their attack is capable of exploding on any given night. Bukayo Saka has started to rediscover top form, while Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz can present constant problems in and around the box. Gabriel Martinelli and Eberechi Eze add another layer of pace and unpredictability to the attack.
In midfield, Declan Rice has arguably been Arsenal’s most important player this season. His presence and leadership will be crucial if Arsenal hopes to slow down PSG’s midfield engine. But what truly separates Arsenal from most clubs in Europe is its backline.
The Gunners have conceded only six goals throughout the tournament, largely thanks to the stability provided by David Raya and the center-back partnership of William Saliba and Gabriel. Jurrien Timber and Piero Hincapie complete a defensive unit that is not only difficult to break down, but also dangerous on set pieces. Arsenal has the ability to dictate the tempo of a match, and against a side like PSG, controlling the rhythm could be the key to surviving.

It has taken time for Arsenal to return to this stage. Now, Arteta stands one match away from delivering the club’s first-ever Champions League trophy.
Our prediction

Arsenal’s rise under Arteta has been impressive, and this squad looks ready to compete for every major trophy available. But in the Champions League final, they will have to get past one of the most dominant sides in Europe in recent years.
The defenses of both squads are elite in different ways. Arsenal operates like a wall, while PSG thrives through adaptability. But PSG’s advantage in attack may ultimately be too much for any side to handle, at least, this season.
PSG simply has too many ways to hurt opponents. They have been here before, and that experience could once again make the difference on the biggest stage. Everyone will expect Arsenal to make things difficult, but when the dust settles, PSG’s firepower may prove impossible to stop as the Parisians go back-to-back and cement themselves as one of Europe’s defining teams of this era.
